Mauricio Pochettino will be the happiest man on the planet after beating Manchester United at Old Trafford, a ground at which he has never won before. The match was United’s first big test of the season and coming after the surprise loss to Brighton, it was a must-win game for Mourinho’s men.
Spurs were able to ensure that the pre-match comments about not winning or even scoring a goal at Old Trafford didn’t get to them during the match and stuck to their game plan perfectly.
United started the game brightly, trying to dictate the pace of the game and controlling possession. The game wore on with United having the better chances in the first half but the wasteful Romelu Lukaku was not helping United’ situation. He fluffed chance after chance that could have given United control of the game allowing Spurs to keep the game at 0-0 at the break.
The first corner after the break for the visitors saw the Spurs go in front, Harry Kane headed home after he was poorly marked by the United defence in the 50th minute.
It didn’t take long before Lucas Moura made it 2-0 and on the stroke of full time, Lucas Moura made it three and wrapped up what was a convincing win for Spurs, their first at Old Trafford under Pochettino.
